Chapter 3: Didn't come to School
After school was over, only then did Xu Lang remember the thing about cashing the ticket.
Xu Lang looked down at his down-filled jacket, and his backpack.
Like this going to redeem the prize, basically, by tomorrow everyone in the city would know, that a student won the prize. And won three-hundred-thousand at that too.
Xu Lang went to a store not far away, buying a suit, and a briefcase, then headed to the barbershop, cutting his hair short.
For a moment, it felt like he was looking at his past self.
Xu Lang put his school bag and the down-filled jacket that he was previously wearing all into the store's locker.
Only carrying his ID card and the lottery ticket to the provincial lottery center.
Because Xu Lang was tall and big, even though it only said nineteen years old on the ID card, no one said anything, the cashing process was quickly finished.
And at this hour, because it was almost time for people to get off work, there weren't many people, Xu Lang didn't have to worry about anyone recognizing him.
After the taxes, there were still two-hundred and forty thousand left.
Xu Lang went to grab his things at the store, changed back, and went home.
Arriving at home, he saw his parents sitting in the living room.
Xu Lang knows, that the two were discussing over the problem of who would take ownership of him.
Both of them didn't want to take ownership.
Xu Lang still remembered how they said it, you have to enter college soon, four years in college, just the tuition alone costs forty-fifty thousand, and there are still living expenses, after graduating, marrying, and having kids, which one of these things don't require money.
This time Xu Lang didn't give them the chance to say these words, saying directly, "I have already thought it through, I will not follow anyone."
Before this, the two asked him, who he would follow.
He never gave his answer, and was reborn again.
Xu Lang watched them both letting out a sigh of relief, his father even said, "That's right, you are already of age, we have also fulfilled our responsibilities as your parents."
Without even asking Xu Lang about college, or about his college examinations, they both happily packed their things.
Before leaving they said one more sentence to Xu Lang, the house's lease was about to expire.
Already experiencing it once, and, after so many years, this way of doing things, towards Xu Lang, he didn't feel much about it.
After those two people packed their things and left, Xu Land also started to pack up his things.
This place was quite a distance away from the school, it would be more convenient for him to rent a place around the school's area.
Taking advantage of the two day weekend, Xu Lang rented a house with two bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom, he originally wanted to rent a house with one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen, one bathroom, but there wasn't any, so he settled for the two bedrooms and one living room, he changed the side bedroom to be his study room, and went out to buy a computer.
His main reason for buying a computer was so that he could look for some online video lessons, although the school's homework for him, wasn't difficult, it definitely doesn't compare to the time when he was originally the grade's number one.
The grade's number one......Xu Lang let out a sigh, he really could test during his high school days.
Everything went through smoothly, as he wasn't really a teenage boy, handling various things, he was pretty proficient.
Then Monday came, all the way to the third class starting, Xia Teng still never came to class.
Xu Lang remembered in his previous life that Xia Teng dropped out, his brows furrowed.
Xia Teng is a resident student, living in the dorms, Xu Lang found the class monitor, "Who is Xia Teng's dormmate, why didn't she come to school today?"
The class monitor was an orderly girl who wore glasses, when Xu Lang was looking for her to talk she was actually pretty nervous, but to think that Xu Lang came to ask about Xia Teng, she was a bit surprised, but still replied, "I am Xia Teng's dormmate, last Friday she went back home on break, as for the rest we're also unsure."
"Thank you."
Xu Lang went back to his seat, thinking about some of the news from his previous life.
"Brother Xu, why do you care about that Xia Teng?" At this time, that person name Li Yong came over, nervously asking, "You didn't really get attracted to her did you?"
Most of the boys at this age were all like this, restless during youth, other than sweating in the courts, they mostly paid attention to the girls in the class.
"Don't speak nonsense." Xu Lang's brows furrowed.
"Okok, I won't say it anymore, it's just that Brother Xu, you haven't come to play basketball with us in a while, you don't come, there are barely any girls that come watch the matches anymore, when are you going to play in the matches again?"
Xu Lang suddenly remembered, during his high school days, it seemed that he really enjoyed playing basketball.
"When I'm free."
After school was over, Xu Lang refused Li Yong's invitation to play basketball, and instead went to the class teacher, to ask for student information.
When the class teacher questioned him, Xu Lang only said, when he was filling out the information last time, he hadn't moved houses yet, now he moved houses, so he wants to update the address written down, so that they can avoid the extra trouble for when the college examinations notices get sent out.
The class teacher praised Xu Lang for putting so much care into his things.
Xu Lang looked at the form in his hands, after modifying the address column, he took down Xia Teng's address.
A long road away, from the county to township to village.
Just from looking at the address, you can approximately feel how difficult it was for Xia Teng to test into a high school in the city.
After leaving school, Xu Lang took a taxi to the station, arriving at the station, it was already six in the evening, thankfully there was still one more bus trip towards that county, arriving at that county, it was already past eleven at night.
Xia Teng's hometown wasn't in the county, but in one of the county's small mountain villages, at this time there have been no more buses going there.
Xu Lang remembered his previous life, many people mocked Xia Teng, saying that she was exactly an uneducated village girl.
It seems that the place of birth is a sin, but the person themselves can't choose where they would be born, no?
Xu Lang found a random hotel, staying for a night, early morning the next day, he called the class teacher to ask for two days leave, when the class teacher asked for the reason, he said his parents divorced, and he needed to take care of some things, the class teacher said some words of comfort, after ending the call, Xu Lang went to buy some fruits as gifts, and sat on a bus towards the small mountain village.
Sitting on the bus for four hours, there were more and more green hills, looking at the scenery out the window, it was as if one step at a time we were going from modern civilization back to the farming age.
Arriving at the village, it took nearly a whole day, Xu Lang thought, Xia Teng used so much time to come back, something big must have happened.
This might have been the reason she dropped out of school.
This is the first time Xu Lang has ever been to such a remote place, even though he was only wearing a simple black padded big coat, wearing a pair of simple white sneakers, but around a group carrying hoes, a man who isn't sloven is bound to stand out, along with how everyone in the village are people who are close like relatives, so seeing an outsider come, quite a few people looked over.
Xu Lang didn't feel embarrassed, carrying his bag, he went up to ask where Xia Teng's house was located.
The uncle spoke Mandarin carrying a strong local accent, saying "You can follow this road heading straight, it's the third house."
Xu Lang went as the other party said, walking straight. Finding the place quickly.
As for Xia Teng's family situation, Xu Lang didn't know much about it, only knowing, that Xia Teng didn't have a good relationship with her family, afterward her parents sued her bringing it onto court, the thing was also very widely spread.
Of course in the end Xia Teng lost the lawsuit. Paying a lot of money.
So, Xu Lang had prepared his heart, but he never thought, to see this type of situation.
Hair completely messy, a girl with a pale face wearing an unlined garment, was kneeling on the ground in the courtyard while shivering.
From time to time a middle-aged woman's voice came out from inside, mixed with some dialect, Xu Lang understood the general meaning, "When you were born then I should have beat you to death." "If you are not willing to marry then continue kneeling there until you die."
Xu Lang came out, shouting from the outside of the courtyard, "Is there anyone home? Is this Xia Teng's house?"
Standard proficient Mandarin, a nice voice, being completely out of place here.
Xia Teng's mother immediately rushed out of the room, seeing Xia Teng about to get up, and coldly reproached her, "You stay kneeling here. The time that you finally think it through, and realized your wrongs, then that's the time you can get up."
Xu Lang came out, hoping for a recoil effect, thinking that an outsider came, the guardian parent who wouldn't want to lose face, would let Xia Teng get up, but never would he have thought, that the other party did not think that way at all.
When Xia Teng's mom went out of the courtyard and saw a tall and big, handsome man that gave of an aura not any different from those stars on the television, asking a bit diffidently, "Hello, is there something wrong?"
"Hello, is this Xia Teng's house? "I'm Xia Teng's teacher, my name is Xu Lang." Xu Lang replied.
According to Xia Teng's standing in the family, Xu Lang didn't think the other party would know at all how her teacher looked, besides, there were more than one teacher.
Xu Lang was tall and big, adding that in his previous life he held a superior position, giving off a strong aura, Xia Teng's mom didn't suspect at all that the other party was just a nineteen year old, and also just a student.
Enthusiastically welcoming Xu Lang in.
When Xia Teng heard Xu Lang's voice, she lowered her head in embarrassment, hoping to turn into one of the grass on the ground, this way she wouldn't feel as ashamed of herself.
But then she heard the other party pretending to be a teacher, and her mother also didn't realize that he wasn't a teacher.
When Xu Lang came in, saw the person who was always looking up, holding their neck high, and unwilling to admit to their faults, at this very moment lowered their head, as if they didn't want the other party to see how embarrassing they looked.
He let out a sigh in his heart, in the beginning because he worried about the other person losing face, he came out, but never did he think, that the other party didn't care one bit about the child.
Of course at this moment Xu Lang couldn't not open his mouth, gently asking, "What is happening?"
The good expression on Xia Teng's mom's face went away in an instant, saying while burning with rage, "Teacher, you don't know the situation of our family."
"No matter what, it's wintertime right now. Let the child get up first." Xu Lang's tone was gentle, completely matching that of an elder.
If it wasn't that two days before they were both still listening in class as deskmates, Xia Teng also feels that this person was her class teacher, coming to visit her house.
